Lightened Up Pesto Sauce

My mom and I came up with this recipe when we first started doing Weight Watchers. Pesto Sauce was always a staple in our home but, as you know, it is not very healthy. So, we decided to lighten it up! My mom always has fresh basil in her garden so we experimented until we found the perfect recipe. I use this for a ton of different dishes. It is great on pasta, on mac and cheese, to dip veggies or bread into and my favorite way, drizzled over chicken with some balsamic, it’s like a chicken caprese!

Lightened Up Pesto Sauce

  • 1 cup packed basil
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth fat-free
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper


  • Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth
