Bloomin Onion

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

If there’s one restaurant dish I would all day, everyday, it would be a Bloomin Onion from Outback. I just looked on the app and can you believe that they’re 75 points!? HOW!? That doesnt work for me so I recreated it! And I can honestly say, who needs Outback when you have my recipe 😉 it’s just as great (maybe better) and way healthier!! Make sure you pair it with my copycat sauce.

This is 4 WW points per serving, which I half an onion. Make sure you also try out my mini blooming onions!

Equipment

  • Air Fryer

Ingredients

  • 1 sweet vidalia onion
  • ¼ cup flour
  • 2 egg whites egg beaters
  • ¼ cup cornmeal
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pinch black pepper
  • 1 pinch paprika

Copycat Sauce

  • ¼ cup plain, nonfat Greek yogurt
  • ½ tablespoon sugar free ketchup GHughes
  • 1 tablespoon minced horseradish sub: minced ginger root, honey mustard or mustard
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • 1/16 teaspoon oregano
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne
  • 1 pinch pepper

Instructions

  • Cut the root off the onion, leaving the stem intact. With the stem facing up, cut the onion into quarters, being sure to start cutting about ½-3/4 inch from the stem. Cut each quarter into three to four more pieces, being sure not to cut all the way through as the petals need to stay firmly on the stem
  • Sprinkle the onion with flour, being sure to carefully lift up each petal to coat every piece. Shake off the excess flour into a bowl. In that bowl, combine the rest of the flour and the seasonings. In another bowl, add the egg
  • Brush each petal with egg wash, being sure to carefully lift up the petals to cover each piece. Shake off the excess egg
  • Add the cornmeal to the flour bowl and stir to combine. Sprinkle this mixture over the onion, being sure to carefully lift each petal to cover all surfaces
  • Air fyer in the greased air fryer at 300 degrees for 20 minutes. Spray with cooking spray every few minutes

I just made the bloomin onion and it was so yummy. I didn’t have corn meal but still loved it. The sauce was amazing!

This looks so good. I do not have an air fryer? Would same temp and time work in oven? Can't wait to try this!

It definitely will not be as good. But cook it at a higher temperature for a little longer.
