The best way to get in a little fried flavor are my air fryer apples baked with butter, maple syrup and cinnamon. These are perfect over some vanilla ice cream!
Looking for somewhat of a deconstructed apple pie? Try out my air fryer apples! They are basically just the insides of an apple pie, baked perfectly together with some butter, maple syrup and cinnamon in the air fryer.
So where did my love of apple pie begin? Well, when I was a kid, my grandpa and I always made apple pies together. His name is Al, who I am named after. We both had an A name: Al and Allie! When we made our pies, he always wrote an A on them. He told me it was to distinguish that it was an apple pie, but I always believed it was for Al and Allie.
I have yet to make an apple pie without my grandpa. He was really an expert and made them all by scratch. But, apple pies are still my favorite dessert. I had to come up with an easier solution. That is when I started to make my air fryer apples baked in with butter, maple syrup and cinnamon.
These air fried apples are everything you love about an apple pie, minus the actual pie crust! Serve these over ice cream or wrap them up in a puff pastry / egg roll wrapper.
Making the Best Apples in the Air Fryer
You can slice up the apples in different ways, depending on how you like them. I like to slice them up into little bite-sized squares; however, you can slice them up into French fry shapes like a real apple pie filling.
You can cook the apples as long or little as you like. I like them a little more well done, about 13 minutes in the air fryer; however, you can cook them a little more or a little less.
If you are cutting them up into different shapes, be mindful of the cooking times as they will vary. If they are cut smaller than mine, they will take less time. Just as if they are larger, they will take more time.
I like my air fryer apples pretty sweet; however, you can scale back the sugar a little if you do not have as big of a sweet tooth as I have.
What You Need for Baked Apples
First, you will of course need an air fryer. I prefer a basket type air fryer as it keeps the apples contained.
- Apples
- Butter
- Maple Syrup
- Cinnamon
- Vanilla Extract
- Brown Sugar
- Salt
Apples - go all out with your apples and get a deliciously sweet kind!
Butter - use butter, margarine, or you can even substitute oil. I love the flavor of the butter though. If you want to keep it easier, you can even just spray the apple pieces with butter spray.
Maple Syrup - this is going to add some extra sweetness and sticky-ness to the apples. This will flavor the apples and also allow the other ingredients to stick to the apples in the air fryer. A delicious substitute for this is also some caramel.
Cinnamon - I mean, you cannot have an apple pie without a little cinnamon.
Vanilla Extract - this adds some extra flavor and dimension.
Brown Sugar - I am a huge sugar replacement fan. I used Swerve brown sugar replacement in these; however, you can use regular sugar. You can also substitute with granular sugar but brown is really my favorite.
Salt - you always need a little pinch of salt when making something sweet!

What To Serve With the Best Apples
Breakfast - for breakfast, you can serve these over pancakes or waffles for an apple pie inspired breakfast. You can also serve these over some oats.
Dessert - my favorite way is to serve these as a dessert over some ice cream. You can also wrap them up in a puff pastry or egg roll wrapper.
What To Do With Leftovers
I recommend enjoying these immediately. They do not make for very great leftovers. A whole apple can feed 1 to 2 people; therefore, I usually make only one at a time.
